Named after the "Black Tide" (Kuroshio), the North Pacific ocean current that carries warm tropical waters along Japan’s eastern coast, the album translates large-scale oceanic circulation into an uninterrupted, slowly evolving sonic journey. Rather than relying on abrupt transitions, Kuroshio unfolds with glacial momentum through layered micro-textures, deep tonal resonance, and fluid harmonic drift.
The Kuroshio current is an immense kinetic mass moving without disruption: carrying warmth, moisture, and pelagic life across thousands of kilometers. Silentwave mirrors this natural dynamic by eschewing conventional structures, opting for an uninterrupted continuous drift.
Across two expansive, long-form pieces, composer Noguchi Yoshinori charts a minimalist passage through the current, operating precisely at the threshold between surface calm and subterranean power.
Complementing the album’s sonic architecture, the physical CD edition is conceived as an exclusive, tactile art piece developed through a design collaboration between scual and Japanese designer LOID.
Echoing the Kuroshio current’s fluid dynamics, each clear jewel case is individually hand-painted in deep ocean blue, leaving no two copies identical. The manual dispersion of pigment across transparent surfaces mirrors the music itself: an organic suspension of tone that plays on the tension between dark pelagic depth and surface light
